O-polysaccharide
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008263
A component of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) found on the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. It is a long, hydrophilic chain of repeating oligosaccharide units that extends from the bacterial surface. The O-polysaccharide is highly variable among bacterial strains and is a major antigen recognized by the host immune system.
