Opposing reactions

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008264

Chemical reactions that proceed in both forward and reverse directions simultaneously, eventually reaching a state of chemical equilibrium where the rates of the forward and reverse reactions are equal. These reactions are also known as reversible reactions. The equilibrium constant (K) quantifies the relative amounts of reactants and products at equilibrium.
