Equilibrium

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004054

A state in a chemical system where the rates of the forward and reverse reactions are equal, resulting in no net change in the concentrations of reactants and products. This dynamic balance means that individual molecules continue to react, but the overall macroscopic properties of the system remain constant. The position of equilibrium can be quantified by an equilibrium constant, which is temperature-dependent.
