Microscopic reversibility at equilibrium

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007360

A principle stating that at equilibrium, every elementary process and its reverse process occur at the same rate. This implies that the forward and reverse rates of each individual step in a reaction mechanism are balanced. It is a more stringent condition than macroscopic reversibility, which only requires the net rates of overall reactions to be zero.
