Microsome
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007361
A subcellular fraction of eukaryotic cells obtained by differential centrifugation of homogenized tissue, primarily composed of fragments of the endoplasmic reticulum and ribosomes. These vesicles retain many of the enzymatic activities of the intact endoplasmic reticulum, particularly those involved in drug metabolism and detoxification. Microsomes are often used in in vitro studies to investigate metabolic pathways and enzyme kinetics.
