Mucopolysaccharides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007610

A class of long, unbranched polysaccharide chains composed of repeating disaccharide units, where one of the two monosaccharides is an amino sugar (a glycosamine) and the other is often a uronic acid. These biopolymers are highly viscous and negatively charged due to the presence of carboxyl and sulfate groups. They are found extensively in connective tissues, providing lubrication and structural integrity.
