Polysaccharides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009235

Macromolecular carbohydrates, also known as glycans, composed of more than ten monosaccharide units joined together by glycosidic linkages. These polymers can be linear, like cellulose, or branched, like glycogen and amylopectin. Polysaccharides serve as energy storage molecules, such as starch in plants and glycogen in animals, or as structural components, like cellulose in plant cell walls and chitin in fungal cell walls and arthropod exoskeletons.
