Homopolysaccharide
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005385
A polysaccharide composed of a single type of monosaccharide repeating unit, also known as a homoglycan. These polymers contrast with heteropolysaccharides, which contain two or more different types of monosaccharides. Common examples include starch and glycogen, which are polymers of glucose and serve as energy storage molecules in plants and animals, respectively, and cellulose, a structural polymer in plant cell walls.
