Monosaccharides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007560

The simplest form of carbohydrates, consisting of a single polyhydroxy aldehyde or ketone unit that cannot be hydrolyzed into smaller carbohydrate units. These compounds serve as the basic building blocks for more complex carbohydrates like disaccharides and polysaccharides. Glucose, fructose, and galactose are common examples of monosaccharides.
