Amino sugars
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000492
Monosaccharides in which a non-anomeric hydroxyl group has been replaced by an amino group or a substituted amino group. These compounds are components of many biologically relevant macromolecules, including the polysaccharide chitin. This class is distinct from glycosylamines, where the amino group is attached to the anomeric carbon atom.
