Ion-selective electrode
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006146
An electrochemical sensor that responds selectively to the activity of a specific ion in a solution by developing an electrical potential across a selective membrane. The potential difference between the ion-selective electrode and a reference electrode is measured, and this potential is logarithmically related to the ion's activity according to the Nernst equation. These electrodes are widely used for direct potentiometric measurements of ion concentrations.
