Potentiometry

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009330

An electrochemical method of analysis that measures the potential difference (voltage) between two electrodes in an electrochemical cell under conditions of essentially zero current flow. The potential of an indicator electrode is measured relative to a reference electrode, and this value is related to the activity or concentration of a specific analyte in the solution. The relationship between the measured potential and the analyte's activity is described by the Nernst equation.
