Tannic acid
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003765
A naturally occurring organic compound derived from plants, used as a deflocculant and a fluid loss control additive in water-based drilling fluids. It functions by adsorbing onto clay particles, reducing their tendency to aggregate and improving the rheological properties of the mud. Tannic acid is also employed as a scavenger for oxygen and other corrosive agents in drilling fluid systems.
