Rheology modifier
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003158
A chemical additive used to alter the flow properties of a drilling fluid. These substances adjust viscosity and gel strength to achieve desired performance for hole cleaning, suspension of cuttings, and controlling fluid loss. Examples include polymers like xanthan gum for increasing viscosity and thinners like lignosulfonates for reducing it, with the choice depending on mud type, downhole temperature, and pressure.
