Hole cleaning
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001844
The process of removing drilled cuttings from the wellbore and transporting them to the surface using the circulating drilling fluid. Effective hole cleaning prevents the accumulation of cuttings, which can lead to stuck pipe, increased torque and drag, and reduced drilling efficiency. This process depends on factors such as fluid rheology, annular velocity, and hole inclination.
