Thinner
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003815
A chemical additive used in drilling fluids to reduce their viscosity and gel strength, improving flow properties and pumpability. Thinners, also known as deflocculants, work by dispersing clay particles and preventing their aggregation, which can lead to excessive mud thickness. Lignosulfonates and tannins are common types of thinners used in water-based muds.
