Rhombohedral packing
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003159
A dense arrangement of spherical grains in a rock where each sphere is in contact with twelve other spheres, forming a rhombohedral lattice. This packing arrangement represents the tightest possible configuration for uniform spheres. It results in a theoretical porosity of approximately 26%, which is lower than cubic packing.
