Primary porosity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002932
The original pore space within a sedimentary rock that was created at the time of deposition, before any post-depositional changes. This intergranular void space is a function of the sorting and packing of the sediment grains. Primary porosity contrasts with secondary porosity, which develops after deposition through processes such as dissolution or fracturing.
