Secondary porosity index
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003298
A calculated value that quantifies the amount of porosity created after the original deposition of the rock, such as fractures, vugs, or dissolution features. It is derived by comparing the total porosity measured from a density log with the intergranular porosity estimated from a sonic log. A high secondary porosity index often indicates improved reservoir quality due to enhanced fluid flow paths.
