Secondary recovery
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003300
Methods employed to maintain reservoir pressure and displace oil towards producing wells after primary recovery declines. The most common secondary recovery techniques involve injecting water or natural gas into the reservoir to sweep oil. Waterflooding is a widely used secondary recovery method, often increasing oil recovery by 10-20% of original oil in place.
