Waterflood
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004108
A secondary recovery method in which water is injected into a reservoir through injection wells to sweep oil toward producing wells and to maintain reservoir pressure. It usually starts after primary depletion has reduced the natural drive, with injectors and producers arranged in patterns or along the flanks of the field. It is classed as secondary recovery, in contrast to enhanced oil recovery methods that change oil or rock properties with gas, chemicals or heat.
