Depletion

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001003

The process of reducing the average reservoir pressure and the amount of hydrocarbons in place due to continuous production over time. As fluids are withdrawn, the reservoir energy decreases, leading to declining production rates. This natural process is a primary mechanism of hydrocarbon recovery, often followed by secondary or tertiary recovery methods.
