Depleted zone
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001002
A section of a reservoir whose pressure has fallen well below its original value because fluids were produced from it, which lowers production rates and changes fluid properties. When a well is drilled or completed through such a zone alongside higher-pressure layers, the margin between pore pressure and fracture pressure narrows, raising the risk of lost circulation and differential sticking.
