Depletion

The reduction in the quantity of a natural resource, such as minerals, oil, or gas, due to extraction over time. This accounting concept reflects the consumption of a non-renewable asset. Depletion is calculated for tax and financial reporting purposes, similar to depreciation for manufactured assets.
