A tax levied on the supply of goods and services, including electricity and natural gas, in many countries. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect, value-added tax applied at each stage of the production and distribution chain, with the final cost borne by the consumer. Utility bills typically show the GST as a separate line item calculated on the total energy consumption charges.
