Peak shaving

The process of reducing electrical power consumption during periods of high demand to avoid high utility charges or to prevent overloading the grid. This is achieved by shifting energy usage to off-peak hours, using on-site generation, or drawing from energy storage systems. Businesses often implement peak shaving to lower their electricity bills.
