Shaving tool
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005201
A cutting tool that takes off a very thin layer of material to improve the finish or size of a surface or edge. In sheet metal work a shaving die trims the rough, fractured edge left on a blanked or pierced stamping, and in turning a shaving tool takes a light finishing cut after roughing. Gear shaving cutters apply the same principle to the flanks of gear teeth.
