Depopulate

To intentionally leave certain component positions on a printed circuit board (PCB) unpopulated during assembly. This practice allows for design flexibility, cost reduction by omitting unnecessary features, or the creation of different product variants from a single board layout. Depopulated components are indicated in the bill of materials and assembly instructions.
