Residual oil

The oil that remains trapped in the pore spaces of a reservoir rock after natural depletion and waterflooding have occurred. This oil is immobile under normal reservoir conditions due to capillary forces and wettability. It represents a target for enhanced oil recovery methods, which aim to mobilize and produce it.
