Wettability change
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004156
An alteration in the preference of a reservoir rock surface for oil or water, often induced by the injection of specific chemicals or fluids. This modification can convert an oil-wet rock to water-wet, or vice versa, thereby mobilizing trapped oil by changing capillary forces. Surfactant flooding and low-salinity waterflooding are examples of enhanced oil recovery methods that rely on wettability alteration.
