Low-salinity waterflooding
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002229
An enhanced oil recovery technique that involves injecting water with a reduced salt concentration into a reservoir to improve oil displacement. The lower salinity water can alter the wettability of the reservoir rock, making it more water-wet, and reduce the interfacial tension between oil and water. This mechanism is still under investigation but shows promise for certain reservoirs.
