Fresh water
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001586
Water in a formation with low salinity, containing a low concentration of dissolved salts like sodium chloride. Its high electrical resistivity contrasts sharply with the low resistivity of saline formation water, making it identifiable on resistivity logs. Fresh water is defined as having less than 1,000 parts per million (ppm) of total dissolved solids, though in logging the term can be applied to any water substantially less saline than seawater.
