Formation water
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001539
Water naturally present in the pore spaces of a rock formation, existing alongside any hydrocarbons. This water is typically saline, containing dissolved salts and minerals acquired from the host rock over geologic time. The salinity, measured in parts per million (ppm) of total dissolved solids, is a key parameter for calculating water saturation from resistivity logs and for managing produced water during production.
