Water saturation

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004102

The fraction of the pore volume in a rock that is occupied by formation water, expressed as a percentage or a decimal. It indicates the amount of water present in the reservoir rock relative to the total pore space. Water saturation is a key parameter in determining the hydrocarbon potential of a reservoir, with lower values indicating higher hydrocarbon content.
