Water production

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004101

The flow of formation water, or connate water, into the wellbore along with hydrocarbons. This water can originate from the oil or gas zone itself or from an adjacent aquifer that has moved into the reservoir due to pressure depletion. The volume of produced water is measured as part of the total fluid stream, and its ratio to oil, the water cut, is a key metric for managing reservoir performance and planning for fluid separation and disposal.
