Gas volume fraction (GVF)
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001632
The ratio of the volume occupied by the gas phase to the total volume of a multiphase fluid mixture at a given pressure and temperature. It is a key parameter in multiphase flow calculations, indicating the proportion of gas present in the flow stream. GVF is used to characterize the flow regime and predict pressure drop in pipelines transporting oil, gas, and water mixtures.
