Gas holdup log
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001621
A measurement of the volume fraction of gas in a multiphase flow stream within a wellbore or pipeline, presented as a continuous log versus depth. The log is generated by a production logging tool that differentiates between the gas and liquid phases based on their contrasting physical properties, such as electrical capacitance or density. Gas holdup data is combined with fluid velocity measurements to calculate the individual flow rates of gas and liquid in the well.
A production log that quantifies the volume fraction of gas present in the multiphase fluid flowing through a wellbore. It is derived from tools that measure fluid properties sensitive to the presence of gas, such as electrical capacitance, optical properties, or fluid density. The resulting profile of gas holdup versus depth is used to pinpoint gas entry zones, determine the flow pattern, and calculate volumetric flow rates for the gas and liquid phases.
