Porosity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002870
The fraction of a rock's bulk volume occupied by pore space, expressed as a percentage or a decimal. Total porosity counts all voids, while effective porosity counts only the connected pores through which fluids move. Sandstone reservoirs range from about 10 to 30 percent porosity, measured from density, neutron and sonic logs or from core samples.
