Isolated porosity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002048
The part of a rock's pore volume made up of pores that are sealed off from other pores and from the wellbore, so the fluid in them cannot flow or be produced. It still counts toward total porosity measured by density or NMR logs, but not toward effective porosity, so it is estimated as the difference between the total and the connected pore volume. Vuggy carbonates with unconnected vugs and rocks with cemented pore throats are typical hosts.
