Disposal well

A well used to inject produced water, drilling fluids, or other non-hazardous industrial waste fluids into deep, isolated geological formations. These wells are designed to prevent contamination of potable water sources and are subject to strict regulatory oversight, such as the EPA's Underground Injection Control program in the United States. The injected fluids are typically placed into porous rock layers sealed by impermeable strata.
