Multiple salinity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002486
A core measurement in which a shaly sample is saturated in turn with brines of several salinities and its electrical conductivity Co is measured at each, then plotted against the brine conductivity Cw. The straight-line part of the Co against Cw plot gives the formation factor, and the departure at low salinity reflects the extra conductivity of clay counterions. From it the clay conduction term can be derived for shaly-sand saturation models such as Waxman-Smits.
