Waterflooding
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004110
A secondary recovery method in which water is injected into a reservoir through injection wells to maintain pressure and push oil toward producers. It is the most widely used secondary recovery process, and it is normally classed as conventional rather than enhanced oil recovery because it injects no new chemicals or heat. Waterflooding typically lifts recovery by roughly 10 to 20 percent of original oil in place beyond primary depletion.
