Waterflood kick
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004109
An uncontrolled influx of formation fluids into the wellbore during a waterflooding operation, caused by an imbalance between the hydrostatic pressure of the injected water column and the reservoir pressure. This event indicates that the injection pressure has fallen below the formation pressure, allowing reservoir fluids to enter the well. It requires immediate action to regain well control.
