Kick

An unplanned influx of formation fluid, such as oil, gas, or water, into the wellbore. This occurs when the hydrostatic pressure of the drilling fluid is insufficient to overcome the formation pressure. A kick is a serious safety concern that can escalate into a blowout if not controlled promptly.
