Circulation loss

The uncontrolled flow of drilling fluid from the wellbore into a permeable formation or fracture, rather than returning to the surface. This can lead to a reduction in hydrostatic pressure, increasing the risk of a kick or blowout. Losses are measured in barrels per hour and can be partial or total.
