Well control
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004135
The methods and equipment employed to prevent an uncontrolled flow of formation fluids, such as oil, gas, or water, from a wellbore to the surface. This involves maintaining hydrostatic pressure in the wellbore greater than the formation pressure, primarily through the use of drilling mud. Blowout preventers (BOPs) are a primary mechanical barrier in well control operations.
