Blowout

The uncontrolled flow of formation fluids, including oil, gas, or water, from a wellbore to the surface. This occurs when the pressure of the reservoir fluids overcomes the hydrostatic pressure of the drilling mud column. Blowouts are extremely hazardous events that can result in fatalities, extensive environmental damage, and substantial financial losses.
