Improved oil recovery
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001951
Any practice that raises the fraction of oil recovered from a reservoir, including improved reservoir characterization, infill and horizontal drilling, better waterflood management and conformance control, as well as enhanced oil recovery processes. IOR therefore covers EOR and also improvements to primary and secondary recovery. Drilling infill wells in a waterflood is IOR but not EOR, since it injects no new fluid or energy to change oil properties.
