Whole core

A cylindrical sample of rock, typically 3 to 4 inches in diameter and several feet long, retrieved from a wellbore. This sample provides a direct physical representation of the reservoir rock, allowing for detailed laboratory analysis of petrophysical properties, lithology, and fluid content. Whole cores are cut using a specialized core barrel during drilling operations.
