Core plug

A small, cylindrical sample of rock drilled from a larger whole core, typically 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter and 1 to 2 inches long. These plugs are used for detailed laboratory measurements of petrophysical properties such as porosity, permeability, and electrical resistivity. They provide representative samples for specific analyses.
